The Global Coordinator of the World Youth Movement at the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC, Ambassador Sulaiman Ashiru, conducted key initiatives on November 3-4 in Bauchi, Nigeria, aimed at supporting youth and education in the region. During his visit, Amb. Ashiru distributed educational materials to kindergarten and primary school students in Bauchi, emphasizing that fostering literacy and promoting education among young minds is one of the priorities the International Human Rights Commission is committed to upholding.
Ambassador Ashiru noted that children from less privileged socio-economic backgrounds often face greater learning challenges, impacting their academic performance. “By providing appropriate support, we can help overcome these barriers and enable them to reach their full potential.” stated Ashiru. “Thus, we strive to eliminate obstacles that hinder access to quality education.”
On the second day of the visit, Amb. Ashiru also led a free training session titled “My Mental Health, My Rights” for students in psychosocial rehabilitation. The goal of the training was to equip students with essential knowledge and tools to cope with life’s challenges. Additionally, a lunch program was conducted in collaboration with the psychosocial rehabilitation institution and MUMSA, supporting youth in Bauchi facing mental health challenges.
As the Global Coordinator of the IHRC World Youth Movement, Ambassador Ashiru actively promotes human rights and youth development worldwide. The IHRC World Youth Movement focuses on four key pillars: Human Rights, Climate Change, Volunteering, and Civic Engagement. Under his leadership, the World Youth Movement aims to create an environment that not only protects but also enables youth to participate fully in national development processes.
“Through education, capacity building, and skills development, we are shaping the next generation of leaders and change-makers.” emphasized Ashiru, expressing hope for the continued empowerment of youth as key participants in social and economic processes.
Acknowledgments to Professor h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik
Ambassador Ashiru also expressed his special gratitude to Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik, IHRC Secretary General.
