Whereas recognition of Article 2 (1&2) of the Act of Accession to the United Organizations between the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Switzerland, and Brings International in Nigeria.

Whereas a common understanding of these is that the Organization ‘Brings International’, will conduct a minimum of 4 times a year a local
humanitarian operation for the benefit of persecuted, poor, or excluded people and to carry out a minimum of 2 times a year, a supra-local humanitarian action with another Organization for the persecuted, poor, or excluded.

Whereas the Back to School Project is a program to bring assistance to families as they prepare to send their kids back to school.

At school resumption, many children are usually found on the streets hopelessly, without support, supplies, and uniforms. We’re burdened by this news, so we’ve designed a special project to make a difference through the “BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT”, for vulnerable children in the underprivileged community.

It will provide them with teaching and learning materials, school bags, and uniforms, ensuring continued education without dropouts.

This project will help poor children buy teaching and learning materials, school bags, and uniforms and payment of school fees to attend school regularly.

Education is a basic human right that works to raise men and women out of poverty, level inequalities and ensure sustainable development. But worldwide, 244 million children and youth are still out of school for social, economic, and cultural reasons.

It is argued that the state of education in Nigeria is not only poor, but there are challenges with access, quality, and relevance.

The Organization will carry out this Programme through:

training, requiring us to teach students vocabulary development and gain confidence in public speaking, general essay review, and letter writing.

reading competition, requiring us to formulate a reading structure following their school syllabus and other literature books.

advocacy and campaigns, requiring us to partner with schools, parents, churches, and Community leaders to stimulate public awareness.

empowerment, requiring us to empower school children with teaching and learning materials, school bags, uniforms, notebooks, and others.

Signed:
Idedevbo Emmanuella Esere
Ag Secretary Brings International

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah IHRC Ambassador-at-Large/Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, was a Guest/Presenter at the 6th Legislative: 2024 First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament Plenary of Thursday, 18th July 2024.

It was an Interactive Session Organised by the ECOWAS Parliament in Partnership with the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Nigeria.

In the presentation tagged, “Human Rights Situation in the West African Region”, he emphasized the human rights violations in Africa such as human trafficking, child labor, gender-based violence (GBV), and discrimination at all levels, including the lack of quality education and access to justice, etc.

He noted that international standards recognize access to justice as both a basic human right and a means to protect other universally recognized human rights.

“The International Human Rights Commission has been positively verified over the years by state and local authorities as well as organizations operating supranational as well as locally in over 100 countries around the world”.

Adding that the primary goal of the IHRC Group is to promote and implement the legislation, customs, and standards applicable to the full extent of HUMAN RIGHTS and all the resulting principles of local and international coexistence. Respect for these principles applies to everyone, everywhere in the world. And because one of the fundamental human rights is to live in peace, a key task for the IHRC Group is to work with national governments to seek and promote peace.

In his recommendation, he said:

That building institution-centered justice systems, combating crime and corruption, and defending human rights are crucial to nation-building.

Promoting the Rule of Law: engaging a highly consultative approach to the delivery of accountable framework, and policy, working with the justice sector and local stakeholders to develop programs that are responsive to African needs and interests should be prioritized by our African leaders.

International Human Rights Commission-IHRC: Stakeholders Harps on Synergy of Human Rights Actors for Effective Activism

December 31, 2023

Stakeholders have expressed concern about consolidating and sustaining human rights into the future, highlighted crucial challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in discharging their duties, and called for synergy between actors to ensure fundamental human rights of citizens are not compromised.

The Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC South/South Region reports that the various stakeholders comprising the Police, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Army, including the Delta State University Abraka, and other Civil Rights Groups spoke at her 2023 end of year Human Rights Stakeholders Summit on Saturday in Abraka Delta State.

The Just Concluded Human Rights Stakeholders Summit

The various stakeholders expressed concern over the development, with an emphasis that the summit will help to develop a comprehensive experience of human rights advocacy hinged to provide creative, concrete knowledge of how to use international and regional human rights treaties and enforcement mechanisms in their work for the protection and promotion of human rights.

They bemoaned the non-compliance to human rights laws, particularly from those who are entrusted to protect and uphold them, ranging from the home, community leaders, political actors, and law enforcement agencies while anticipating the integration of knowledge in the fields of politics, economics, cultural diversity, gender issues, security, and socio-psychology in the context of human rights.

Fidelis Onakpoma, the Regional Coordinator for IHRC Special Monitoring Mission South-South Region, in his opening remark, commended various stakeholders for participating in the one-day human rights summit, imploring them on the need for effective collaboration towards consolidating and sustaining human rights into the future.

He said IHRC was deeply concerned about synergy’s approach and the application of a comprehensive experience of human rights advocacy on how to use international and regional human rights treaties and enforcement mechanisms in their work for the protection and promotion of human rights.

He explained that tertiary institutions, human rights educators, activists, law enforcement officers, lawyers, women activists, research officers, leaders, members of coalitions and networks, staff of NGOs and CBOs, volunteers, development actors, trainers, and students, participated in the summit.

“As stakeholders, we will leverage our partnerships by creating awareness, and implementing enforceable regulations that can help in reducing human rights violations in our communities”.

CP Wale Abass, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, commended IHRC’s idea on the one-day stakeholders engagement, assuring the stakeholders of the Police’s commitment to the quest for any cause that would consolidate human rights into the future.

L: SP. Fabian Efehi Ayameh Representative of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State; R: Fidelis Onakpoma.

The CP who was ably represented by the DPO of Abraka Police Station SP Fabian Efehi Ayameh, stressed that the alarming consequences that have emerged due to non-compliance to human rights cannot be ignored.

He noted that apart from human rights actors being worried about the situation, citizens are getting perturbed that their fundamental human rights are being compromised gradually while appropriate government agencies look the other way.

“But through this summit, information sharing and fruitful exchange of ideas on enforceable and emergency response, considered to bolster human rights compliance and effectively address any human rights related incidents that may occur, will be established, courtesy of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC”.

The Commissioner of Police further said that training programs, and capacity building for policemen and paramilitaries working with the Nigeria Police such as the Vigilante and Anti-cult, will be implemented to enhance their mode of operation in compliance with human rights laws.

“The fundamental human rights of our citizens are non-negotiable, and we will leave no stone unturned in protecting their lives,” he said.

Similarly, the State Commander of NDLEA Delta State Command, Barr. Abubakar Wada, represented by ASN. Cletus Nduka Ndubuisi, said there was a need for all stakeholders to double their efforts, not only in the area of collaboration but also in enlightenment.

ACN. Cletus Nduka Ndubuisi, Representative of the NDLEA Delta Delta State Command.

Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyega, Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University Abraka (DELSU), represented by Prof. Ben Nwane also stressed the need for synergy and collaboration between all the stakeholders.

He noted that DELSU under the indefatigable leadership of Prof. Andy Egwunyega has attained milestone achievements with compliance to human rights laws such as gender equality, no sex for grade, sexual harassment policy, inclusion, and good governance, to mention but a few.

Prof. Ben Nwane, Representative of the Vice-Chancellor DELSU

DELSU had a lot of implementable and enforceable policies safeguarding fundamental human rights, adding that their efforts to consolidate and sustain human rights into the future of the institution remain unwavering.

Pastor (Comr.) Edewor Egedegbe, Chairman Human Rights Protection Congress, asserted that as much as we ensure that more people comply with human rights laws, as we hold our abusers accountable, the issue of education and enlightenment of the public cannot be overemphasized.

Pastor (Comrade) Edewor Egedegbe

“By advocating for sustainable practices, formulating effective policies, and strengthening the capacities of the state, we strive to mitigate the human rights violations in our state”, he hinted.

In his recommendations on what should be done to consolidate and sustain human rights into the future, he submitted that:

Citizens should be responsible for supporting and providing reliable information to security agencies in a bid to ensure peaceful co-existence.

Community leaders should not aid and abate criminals in their community for selfish reasons because a peaceful community is a potential community for development.

Security agencies should earn citizens’ trust through their actions, and not make themselves enemies of the people they intend to protect through oppression, violation of constitutional rights, extortion, etc.

Security agents should not allow themselves to be used to undermine the laws of the land/court orders by political office holders and money bags, for their selfish interest thereby neglecting the rule of law in a democratic dispensation where the office of the citizen is the highest in the land.

Government should ensure and make adequate provision for the wellbeing of its citizens and security personnel, and should not use “the people’s power” vested in them against the wishes and aspirations of the people.

Patriotism should take centre stage for all citizens whether officers or citizens alike and not engage in parochialism and bigotry.

The National Volunteers Coordinator NVC of the International Human Rights Commission Special Monitoring Mission in Nigeria IHRC-SMM, Engr. Elijah Vitus Echendu in his sober reflection on the State of the Nation at 63, has urged the government at all levels to prioritize security, democracy, economic growth, policy, and other measures responsible for responding to the rights and needs of Nigerians.

His statement made available to newsmen on Sunday 1st October 2023, said, esteemed citizens of Nigeria and my fellow compatriots and comrades;

Today, as we celebrate our beloved nation’s 63rd year of independence, it is crucial that we reflect on the challenges we have faced and remember those who have suffered due to the prevailing issues plaguing our great land. It is in acknowledging these hardships that we can begin to pave a brighter path for our collective future.

We cannot forget the heart-wrenching incident that shook our nation to its core – the abduction of innocent schoolgirls in Chibok, including the continued captivity of Leah Shaibu. Their plight continues to haunt our conscience, reminding us of the immense and urgent challenges we face in ensuring the safety and well-being of our people. Let us stand united in demanding their immediate release and pray for their safe return to their families.

Sadly, the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel carried out in the name of religious blasphemy, serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed in the shadow of intolerance. We must denounce such heinous acts and work tirelessly to foster a society where religious freedom and tolerance are respected and cherished.

Insecurity, banditry, and election flaws have cast a shadow over our democratic journey. We acknowledge these challenges and the detrimental impact they have had on our progress. However, within the depths of these struggles, we find the unwavering belief that Nigeria will be better. It is this indomitable spirit that fuels our determination and propels us forward, striving for a brighter tomorrow.

To the dedicated IHRC volunteers in Nigeria, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment to upholding human rights despite the many obstacles we face. Your actions are a testament to the power of collective action in achieving positive change. I implore every one of you to continue discharging your duties with unwavering commitment and belief in the Nigeria project, for it is through your efforts that we can transform our nation.

It is incumbent upon our government to address the pressing challenges of insecurity and human rights violations. We call upon them to act with urgency, engaging in comprehensive efforts to bolster security measures across the nation and eradicate the presence of violence and fear that plague our society. Furthermore, we urge the authorities to prioritize the safe release of all schoolgirls, in particular, Leah Shaibu, whose prolonged captivity remains an immense source of pain for Nigerians nationwide.

Addressing these challenges will foster an environment that nurtures the collective dreams we share for Nigeria. By prioritizing the security and well-being of our citizens and reaffirming our commitment to upholding human rights, we can create a nation where every Nigerian feels safe and inspired to contribute to our collective progress.

“May this Independence Day serve as a reminder of our shared aspirations and ignite a renewed sense of hope and determination in our hearts. Together, let us work tirelessly towards building the Nigeria we all envision – a nation that shines as a beacon of unity, prosperity, and justice for all.
BECAUSE WHAT WE DO TODAY WE DO FOR GENERATIONS

Thank you, and may God bless Nigeria.

September 15, 2023

H.E Ambassador (Dr.) Duru Hezekiah is the Ambassador at Large and Head of the Diplomatic Mission of the Transnational Intergovernmental Organization-International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in Nigeria.

IHRC has its world headquarters in Zurich Switzerland chaired by the Secretary-General, Prof h.c. It’s also a self-financed, neutral, impartial, and independent organization.

IHRC has operated mainly in the international arena in zones of war and military operations, territorial and national conflicts, and humanitarian disasters. On 3 continents, we closely cooperate with state authorities, creating conditions and securing platforms for official and unofficial work and arrangements aimed at resolving conflicts and restoring the application of Human Rights. More about us can be found on our official website at www.ihrchq.org

Upon assumption of office in 2022 as the Ambassador at Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission, Dr. Duru Hezekiah has engendered International Diplomacy, Exemplary Leadership, and Peaceful Dialogue, a thematic apperception of clinging to an indisputable climax in IHRC.

This Monograph Series No 1 titled International Diplomacy in Leadership and Peaceful Dialogue, largely emphasizes Dr. Duru Hezekiah’s antecedents in office from September 2022 to September 2023.

“It highlights his keynote speeches, humanitarian interventions, human rights defense, crime prevention approaches, and negotiations as they span full respect for human rights, multi-actor partnership, equity, sustainability, and attitudes and values that foster responsibility, solidarity, and tolerance”.

These indelible strides are attributed to international diplomacy in leadership, and peaceful dialogue, an affirmation of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s key components of good governance which are transparency, responsibility, accountability, participation, and responsiveness (to the needs of the people).

Meanwhile, International Diplomacy in Leadership and Peaceful Dialogue is interdisciplinary and, of course, extensive. For this monograph, leadership is considered the art of influencing people, organizations, and institutions to accomplish specific purposes, such as missions that serve public and national interests.

There are broader themes here regarding the antecedents of Dr. Duru Hezekiah for institutional and organizational innovation and reform to adapt, and the impact of these demands on politicians and public managers, as ethical leaders, at all levels (participative, organizational, and institutional) and frequently working across multiple sectors (public, private, and nonprofit) thoroughly exemplified.

His ideas of leadership and innovation and public-sector institutional and organizational reform, all enumerated in this Monograph Series No. 1, are worthy of attention. The distinctive approach of his antecedents includes meeting several objectives on the roles and functions of leaders and managers as executives in public institutions and organizations that engage in multi-sectoral activities such as public-private-nonprofit partnerships; Duru is not only good at negotiating and resolving conflicts, but also at creating and maintaining positive relationships, both internally and externally.

Moreover, his impressive professional journey stands as a testament to leadership and influence in shaping regional policies and implementing sustainable development initiatives. Beyond the confines of shaping policies, his literary prowess has captivated readers, weaving compelling narratives that delve deep into crucial societal issues. His keynote addresses have added profound insights and inspiration to navigating underlying solutions to confronting issues.

It was presented to the Secretary-General IHRC Prof.Rafał Marcin Wasik, upon his visit to Nigeria as well as to all Zonal and Regional Volunteers Coordinators of SMM.
