Students of Bellsehel Secondary School Ikotu Lagos were educated on human rights during the 16-day Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) organized by the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in Lagos State.
The event, which was held on Thursday 5th December 2024, endeavored to raise awareness about gender-based violence, promote gender equality, and empower students to advocate for human rights and social justice.
Comrade Atobaje Oluwagbenga David, Regional Volunteers Coordinator for IHRC SMM South West Nigeria, said the students were taught the importance of understanding their fundamental rights.
As he explained, the campaign centered on empowering female students, highlighting their equal capabilities and opportunities alongside their male counterparts.
Moreover, Evangelist Olabiyi Daniel, Lagos State IHRC SMM Program Coordinator, emphasized the importance of recognizing and exercising one’s rights, particularly for women and girls who are disproportionately affected by gender-based violence.
