Celebrating Academic Achievement and Gender Empowerment

On 12 June 2025, under the banner of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and the Peace Justice Humanity and Relief Foundation (PJHRF), a special ceremony was held in the Itki region of Ranchi, Jharkhand, to honour exceptional young achievers.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of four bicycles to the top-performing girls in the region, recognising their academic excellence and supporting their continued education. In addition, over 30 students who achieved distinction marks in the 10th and 12th Board Examinations received medals, certificates, and mementos, celebrating their dedication and success.

Promoting Equal Opportunity and Social Development

“Education is the foundation of dignity and progress. By supporting these talented girls and high-achieving students, we are investing in the future of Jharkhand and promoting gender equality,” remarked Dr. Adv. Arif Nasir Butt, Ambassador in India, IHRC (India) National President, and Head of the Diplomatic Mission in India, who attended the event as Chief Guest.

The programme, expertly organised by Zonal Volunteer Coordinator Arif Raza, was graced by distinguished guests, including Police Incharge Manish Kumar, Vivek Dubey, District Coordinator Reena Devi, and several other respected community leaders.

Building Bridges Between Civil Society and the Community

The event exemplified the commitment of IHRC and PJHRF to empowering youth, promoting education, and supporting equal opportunities for girls. By rewarding academic achievement and providing practical support, the organisations aim to inspire a new generation of responsible, ambitious citizens.

The program’s focus on ‘The Bane of Gender Bias; and the Need to Restore Balance in the Society’ underscored SWEF’s dedication to uplifting and empowering women in the southern region, enabling them to achieve their full potential and contribute to community development.

Dr. Helen Adebakin, in her capacity as National President, commenced her address by underscoring the imperative to confront gender bias, a pervasive issue that has plagued our society for an extended period.

She observed that gender bias, with its numerous insidious manifestations, has prevented generations of women and girls from achieving their full potential, thereby denying them opportunities, suppressing their voices, and restricting their liberty.

“But today, as we stand together united in our mission for empowerment and equality, we declare that enough is enough. It is time to restore balance in our society”, she hinted.

The keynote speaker, Olori Atuwatse III, represented by Chief Mrs. Ebiyemi Omaseye, the Olujimi of Warri Kingdom, praised the National President and her team for their efforts in promoting investments in women and driving progress towards a more equitable and sustainable future.

In the same context, the panellists, including Chief Emma Agbaduba, PDP Vice-chairman, Delta South Senatorial District; Ogochukwu Okekpolo-FSM, Pioneer Director, International Forum for Women in Energy, Oil, and Gas, Delta State Chapter; Barr. Mrs. Ogechi Megbele, Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Delta State Chapter; and Ayo Okotie, Executive Director, Neferok Development Initiative, highlighted the significance of parental responsibilities and took reflective actions to pinpoint key focus areas for enhancing the prospects of women.

Dr. Linda Eya Ikpuri, State Coordinator, also reaffirmed her readiness to lead programs and activities that foster women’s empowerment, gender equality, and social progress, in line with the organisation’s strategic priorities.

She expressed gratitude to HRM Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, who was the sole sponsor of the empowerment segment of the program.

The event comprised a lecture series and messages from state actors and industry leaders on how women can engage in small-scale trades and skills to augment their income sources and make substantial contributions to their families’ maintenance.

At the inauguration event, His Excellency Barr. Dcn Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, and Her Excellency Tobore Oborovwori, wife of the Delta State Governor, were conferred with the distinguished roles of Grand Patron and Grand Matron of the Delta State Chapter of Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF).

The gathering featured notable personalities, such as Dcn. Chris Iyovwaye, Managing Director of Wellman Group of Companies and owner of ‘The Monarchy’ Event Centre, who acted as Patron, and Chief Shimite Love, Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Investment, who took on the role of Matron.

Recall that earlier in September 2023, the Regional Coordinator of the International Human Rights Commission Special Monitoring Mission (IHRC SMM) in Poland, Leli Kagermanova, in collaboration with Dialog Foundation announced the Women Entrepreneurial Skill Acquisition Project for women to learn sewing.

A recent development reveals that the project has undoubtedly kicked off on Saturday 22nd September 2023 at the Dialog Foundation in Białystok Poland.

A statement by the Coordinator Leli Kagermanova, said classes are already underway in Białystok, and the organizers plan to conduct classes throughout Poland and also in Europe.

She noted that their goal is to teach how to support all women who need help by learning the profession of a seamstress, as a way to cushion the lack suffered by many women due to not knowing the language.

“As part of this project, these women will gain knowledge and the opportunity to work in the clothing sewing industry. This is a real chance to get a job in Europe”, Leli Kagermanova maintained.

We would like to thank IHRC Secretary-General Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik for helping all those in need around the world, because what we do today, we do for generations. We would also like to thank Mr. Michał Gaweł, President of the Dialog Foundation in Białystok, for providing the premises for women who want to learn sewing.

On the 1st August 2023, Regional Coordinator for the International Human Rights Commission Special Monitoring Mission (IHRC SMM) in Białystok Poland, Leli Kagermanova with Khava Kagermanova held a meeting with the President of Foundation DIALOG, Michał Gaweł, in Białystok.

The meeting was to intimate him about the scope of work and objectives of the International Human Rights Commission and jointly explore avenues for collaboration between the Foundation DIALOG and the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) towards helping women and girls, particularly in skill acquisition (sew) and empowerment.

In his response, Michał Gaweł on behalf of the Foundation DIALOG expressed readiness to support the ideal and facilitate the project to meet the goal of the people, most especially preparations for students, a room, fabrics, sewing thread, and devices.

While appreciating the International Human Rights Commission, Gaweł noted that a lot of women have been waiting for this collaboration, which is intended for the good of the people, stressing that from 1st September a study on sewing and modeling clothes would commence.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the skill acquisition training from different countries, send their appreciation to the IHRC Secretary-General Prof. h.c. Rafałowi Marcin-Wasik and also thanked Foundation DIALOG Michał Gaweł, alongside others: Monika, Leli Kagermanova, and all other participants.
