<p>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Delta State Command, has reiterated its commitment to partner with the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in curbing the alarming drug abuse challenging our society.</p>



<p>The assurances were made by the State Commander CN Abubakar Wada Esq on Wednesday during a courtesy call visit to the Command by the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in the South-South Region Nigeria led by Fidelis Onakpoma.</p>

<p>Fidelis in his opening remark, conveyed the commendation of the IHRC’s Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah to the Commander for his unwavering commitment to the war against drug menace in the state since his resumption of duty in Delta State, and also acknowledged the counseling and rehabilitation services being rendered by the Delta State Command, as he has first-hand seen drug dependent persons who have been transformed after being at the facility.</p>



<p>He noted that the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC is a Transnational Intergovernmental Organization with headquarters in Zurich Switzerland and a Nigeria Diplomatic Office in Abuja, stressing that the Organization’s Special Monitoring Mission scope of activities is but not limited to community services, advocacy, and campaigns, sensitization and training, and monitoring/ensuring of human rights compliance.</p>

<p>While urging the Commander to continue in his good fight against drug abuse, he further prayed for more poignant collaboration between the Agency and the Commission particularly in the areas of sensitization and advocacy programs which the Command often embarks.</p>



<p>The State commander in his response, expressed his gratitude to the IHRC’s Head of Diplomatic Mission and its National Coordinator for the Special Monitoring Mission in Nigeria, Comrade Elijah Vitus Echendu as well as the Team who came visiting.</p>



<p>He reiterated the Agency’s readiness to synergize with the IHRC towards achieving a more drug-free Delta in compliance with human rights laws.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC , Honors Stakeholders, Sets Agenda 2024</strong><br /><br />Human Rights Stakeholders have been charged with reinforcing commitment and effort to keep the flames of human rights and dignity burning for decades to come through collaborative efforts.<br /><br />The assertion was made by the National Coordinator of the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in Nigeria, Engr. Comr. Elijah Vitus Echendu during the 2023 end-of-year human rights summit/award and gala night held at Abraka Delta State.<br /></p>

<p>He said to attain a remarkable climax in 2024, human rights actors should work closely to develop a comprehensive experience of human rights advocacy that provides creative, concrete knowledge of how to use international and regional human rights treaties and enforcement mechanisms in their work.<br /><br />The National Coordinator competently represented by Barr. Mrs. Nmachi Njemanze acknowledged not to claim antecedents of the Special Monitoring Mission in Nigeria, having worked with various stakeholders whose commitments to the noble cause have been steadfastly evident, enriching the discourse on these matters.</p>

<p>He noted that the Awardees which were the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass; the Delta State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Barr. Abubakar Wada; Captain UO Alawode, OC Nigerian Army Abraka, and the Vice-Chancellor Delta State University Abraka, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga merited the IHRC&#8217;s Award based on their respective roles in upholding human rights.<br><br>Similarly, human rights defenders including Pastor Comrade Edewor Egedegbe, Hon. Dr. Wilson Ekwerekwu, Comrade Monday Enudi, Pharmacist Emmanuel Ejuvwekpokpo, Comrade Emmanuel Osawe Ojeabulu, Barr. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Courtesy Call Visit to IMSU DVC, Philip Igbonna<br><br><strong>Nigeria:</strong> In appraisal efforts to strengthen human rights and kick off the 16-Day Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, the  Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (SMM IHRC) in Imo State, paid a courtesy call visit to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor DVC Admin of Imo State University (IMSU), Rev. Fr. Prof. Philip A. Ogbonna.<br><br>Comrade Ezeani Chiemezie, who led the team of IHRC, said the purpose of the visit was to seek the support and partnership of the Cleric as a Patron of the IHRC-SMM in Imo State to play advisory and mentorship role in advancing and advocating for the human rights of people, alongside safeguarding human rights and facilitating humanitarian initiatives anchored in the Principles enshrined within the Charter of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights-UDHR in Imo State.</p>

<p><br><br>While thanking the DVC, for welcoming the team despite his busy schedule, Ezeani emphasized that the International Human Rights Commission IHRC is an Intergovernmental Transnational Organization advancing the rights of people globally all over the world. <br><br>“The IHRC has signed a treaty with the INTERPOL, State of the African Diaspora, African Peace and Security Union (APSU), a specialized structure functioning as a continental body encompassing the African continent with a clear mandate to support policies and programs that promote stability, development, and integration of the continent, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding with the Peace and Security Cluster of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC), to mention but few&#8221;, he hinted.<br><br>Going further, Barr. (Mrs.) Nmachi Njemanze Head of Legal IHRC SMM Imo State, added that the potency of the UDHR is that it has been domesticated in our laws since its creation in 1993 vide the Nigerian Ratification and Enforcement Act giving it more strength and vigor with an international obligation. </p>

<p><br><strong>August 21, 2023</strong><br><strong>NGA:</strong> In commemoration of World Humanitarian Day 2023, the National Volunteers Coordinator (NVC) for the Special Monitoring Mission of the <mark style="background-color:rgba(0,0,0,0);color:#ff6900" class="has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color">International Human Rights Commission</mark> ( SMM IHRC) in Nigeria, Comrade Elijah Vitus Echendu, has disclosed that SMM will be sponsoring 10 young people on computer skills acquisition in Imo State.<br><br>He made the statement on Saturday during the flag-off of the Computer Skill Acquisition Program at Imo State, assuring to replicate its kind across Nigeria.<br><br>In opening remarks, the NVC Elijah Vitus explained that the initiative was in line with IHRC&#8217;s mission to facilitate humanitarian initiatives on a global scale and commemorate 2023 world humanitarian day.<br><br>He noted that the beneficiaries have been enrolled with E.V.E. Technology, a renowned Technology Firm in Imo State, and shall be trained in various computer skills such as Powerpoint, MS Word and Excel, Paint, Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, Digital Printing, and Graphic Designs, for at least 6 consecutive months.</p>

<p><br><br>Meanwhile, IHRC SMM Imo State Press Coordinator, Ezeani Chiemezie emphasizing the theme of the world humanitarian day on ‘NoMatterWhat&#8217;, charged the beneficiaries in utilizing the opportunity to learn all they can, when they can, because a second opportunity might not present itself. <br><br>He further educated them that the right to education is a fundamental human right and for that reason, IHRC SMM Imo State is sponsoring them to be empowered for the digital future and if they successfully graduate, they would be gifted laptops and basic start-ups to ensure that they are self-reliant.</p>
