Ganga Dasara – A Festival of Purity and Devotion in Nepal

Nepal is a nation renowned for its rich spiritual heritage, ethnic diversity, and vibrant religious traditions. Among its most significant Hindu festivals is Ganga Dasara, celebrated with great devotion across the country—especially in regions like Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim Province.

Ganga Dasara marks the descent of the sacred River Ganga (Ganges) from heaven to earth. Devotees believe that bathing in holy rivers during this festival cleanses sins and brings spiritual purification. The event attracts thousands of worshippers who gather for communal prayers, ritual bathing, and offerings, seeking blessings and well-being for themselves and their families.

IHRC’s Commitment to Community Service in Nepal

On this auspicious occasion, the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting local communities and promoting humanitarian values in Nepal. The IHRC team in Dhangadhi organised a feeding program for all devotees participating in the festival—providing juice, water, and additional assistance to ensure comfort for worshippers.

On December 3, 2024, a ceremonial presentation of the Certificate of Recognition took place in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The certificate was awarded to Kailash Kutee Pvt. Ltd., located in the heart of the city – Chaksibari, Thamel. It was personally handed over by Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik Secretary General Chairperson IHRC Group Peacemaker.

The ceremony was attended by Chairperson Rajesh Pandey and Managing Director Rajan Prasad Kadel, who accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the hotel. This remarkable gathering also included prominent representatives of the International Human Rights Commission:

• Mjr. Gen. IPC Romanos Aziz Raad, Ambassador At Large, High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs to the UN, and Branch Director of IHRC in Lebanon, renowned for his commitment to human rights and international cooperation.
• Pawel Nowacki, Ambassador At Large and Intergovernmental Specialist for Interagency Affairs, whose knowledge and expertise support IHRC initiatives on the global stage.
• Dipendra Silwal, IHRC Commissioner in Nepal, who has long been a key supporter of local peace and development initiatives in the region.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. h.c. Mehmet Şükrü Güzel, who has been actively addressing issues such as decolonisation, international terrorism, conflict prevention, and human rights, expressed his willingness to collaborate with IHRC. His expertise in peacebuilding and reconciliation is expected to bring significant value to the Commission’s global objectives.
