The International Human Rights Commission IHRC Corporation in Nigeria has issued a powerful call to the Nigerian government to prioritize comprehensive security reforms, including the deployment of advanced technological solutions to address the root causes of the ongoing insecurity crisis.

In an official statement, the IHRC expressed deep concern over the alarming wave of senseless killings that continue to threaten the safety, dignity, and peace of Nigerian citizens.

Escalating Violence Across the Nation

The IHRC specifically highlighted the deteriorating security situation in Plateau, Borno, Kwara, and Benue States, where civilians are frequently subjected to gross human rights violations and humanitarian disasters. These crises, according to the Commission, have international implications, contributing to wider global humanitarian emergencies.

Ambassador Hezekiah noted that while terrorism and banditry dominate the northeast and northwest, kidnappings plague the north and parts of the south, and armed attacks by unidentified gunmen continue in the southeast.

Strategic Reforms and Community Engagement Needed

The IHRC advocates for the implementation of a Comprehensive Security Reform (CSR) policy framework that:

• Integrates modern surveillance and data technologies,
• Establishes strong oversight mechanisms,
• Promotes community-level engagement, rooted in the cultural and socio-economic realities of each region.

The Commission also called on Nigerian citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, underscoring that security is a collective responsibility.

Confidence in Leadership and Appeal for Unity

Ambassador Duru expressed confidence in President Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, citing his history of standing for democracy, including the 1993 NADECO Street March. He urged the President to act decisively for the good of the nation:

“You have done it before; please do it again—for the good of all Nigerians.”

As the country mourns the tragic loss of lives, IHRC extended condolences and solidarity to the families affected by violence. The organization reiterated its commitment to peace, development, and human rights, reaffirming its role as a strategic monitor and advocate.
