The Commission’s Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah in a statement made available by his media team, said the day serves as a reminder of the need to address social inequalities, discrimination, and human rights violations, and to work towards creating a more equitable and inclusive society for all individuals.
Dr. Duru Hezekiah described the appointments as part of the fulfillment of the Secretary-General’s commitment to engendering initiatives on peace and security, democracy, human rights, development, and sustainable economic growth in Nigeria through the IHRC Europe-Africa Cooperation Agenda, adding that Ambassador Adejare Nurundeen and Dr. Kingsley Nwokoma will through their experiences contribute significantly to achieving the Agenda.
He further calls on governments worldwide to share how they are investing in gender-based violence prevention ranging from passing or improving laws, ratifying international conventions, launching public awareness campaigns, providing safe houses or free hotline services and free legal aid to survivors, supporting education programs that address gender stereotypes and violence.
Governor Otti stated this when a delegation from the International Human Rights Commission, IHRC, led by the National Co-ordinator, Special Monitoring Missions, Mr Elijah Echendu paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Umuahia.
