Growing Threat for Civilians Returning Home

Unexploded remnants of war continue to present a severe hazard to civilians in several regions of Syria, notably in rural Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, and the Damascus countryside. As displaced families gradually return, there is a troubling surge in injuries and fatalities from landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO)—with children and farmers among the most vulnerable.

Barriers to Recovery and Stability

Local humanitarian organisations report:

• High density of explosive devices in agricultural and residential zones
• Impeded reconstruction efforts
• Serious threat to early recovery and community stability

Appeal for Immediate International Response

Taaluf Humanitaire International Organization calls on the international community—especially the United Nations and specialised agencies like UNMAS—to:

• Provide urgent technical and logistical support for survey and clearance
• Initiate broad-based community awareness campaigns
• Strengthen the capacity of local partners
• Deliver protective gear and detection equipment to field teams

Addressing this urgent humanitarian issue is essential to restore stability in Syria and protect civilians’ right to live in safety and dignity.
