On 30th January, the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid by distributing warm blankets and winter clothing to underprivileged and orphaned children residing at Baitus Salam Orphanage & Madrasa in Chittagong Mayor Goli.
Many organisations and individuals take on the responsibility of improving the lives of those in need, and IHRC has been carrying out humanitarian initiatives in Bangladesh for years, particularly during the harsh winter months, when the most vulnerable require extra support. This initiative was made possible through the dedication of numerous compassionate individuals, including Ms. Rukshana Khanam Mitua, a political figure, philanthropist, and environmentalist. Her generosity and commitment enabled the delivery of blankets to the orphanage, ensuring that the children could experience some warmth and comfort.
Reflecting on the initiative, Ms. Rukshana Khanam Mitua emphasised that IHRC carries out similar efforts at the grassroots level in Bangladesh every year during the winter, striving to reach those most in need. Her guidance and support were instrumental in the successful completion of this meaningful mission.
Special appreciation goes to all those who contributed to making this initiative possible: National Coordinator Amb. Elias Sirazi, Roksana Khan Mitua, Syed Mostafa Alam Masum, Amir Hossain Khan, SM Kamrul Islam, Tahera Sharmin, Lion Asif Gani Chowdhury, Moin Uddin Ahmed, Saifuddin Mahmud, Engineer Debashish Paul, Md. Imtiaz Uddin, Chaithowai Marma, Mobarok Ahmed, and Dr. Sajjad. Each of them played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this noble cause.
At approximately 8:00 PM, the IHRC team, led by SM Kamrul Islam, arrived at the orphanage, where they were warmly welcomed by Maulana Forkan Ahmad, the coordinator of the facility. During the gathering, SM Kamrul Islam highlighted that humanity is a core value upheld by all faiths and that true love for others is the greatest virtue one can possess. He spoke about the profound joy of being able to support children who have faced immense hardships yet continue to hold onto hope. He reaffirmed IHRC’s commitment to standing by those in need, ensuring they receive not just material aid but also the reassurance that they are not alone.
Maulana Furqan Ahmed and Aurangazeb Khan Samrat also addressed the gathering, expressing their deep gratitude for the support provided and acknowledging the impact of such initiatives in fostering a more compassionate world.
This humanitarian mission would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless efforts of the entire team, which included SM Kamrul Islam (team leader), Lion Asif Gani Chowdhury, Aurangzeb Khan Samrat, Debashish Paul, Md. Imtiaz Uddin, Engineer Abu Tayub, Prof. Abu Hanif, Md. Hasan, and Dr. Sajjad (IHRC Press Journalist). Each team member played an essential role in organising and coordinating the event, ensuring its seamless execution.
That evening, the orphanage became a place filled with warmth, kindness, and hope. What may seem like a simple gesture to some can mean the world to others, symbolising care, solidarity, and human kindness. Initiatives like this serve as a reminder that even the smallest acts of compassion can lead to meaningful change. IHRC remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting those in need, and this effort was not just about providing blankets—it was about sending a message of hope, love, and unwavering support.
