November 25: IHRC Upholds Actions to Curb Violence Against Women, Girls.
Saturday 25th, 2023
The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign is a United Nations campaign, which is held annually from 25 November (International Day for No Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
With this year’s theme “UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls”, the International Human Rights Commission IHRC has reaffirmed its readiness to accelerate actions that prevent violence against women and girls.
This was obtained in a statement by the Commission’s Ambassador at Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, through his Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Fidelis Onakpoma, on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
He said primary prevention could help stop violence against women and girls before it occurs, urging IHRC Officials of the Special Monitoring Mission in Nigeria to share the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.
He further calls on governments worldwide to share how they are investing in gender-based violence prevention ranging from passing or improving laws, ratifying international conventions, launching public awareness campaigns, providing safe houses or free hotline services and free legal aid to survivors, supporting education programs that address gender stereotypes and violence.
