NGA: As part of the global 16-Days Activism to End Gender-based Violence (GBV), the International Human Rights Commission Special Monitoring Mission (IHRC SMM) in Borno State, visited Bakassi IDP Camp in Maiduguri MMC Local Government Area.
Comrade Mohammed Hassan, Zonal Coordinator of IHRC SMM Borno State, explained that the advocacy visit was intended to raise awareness among residents of the camp about gender-based violence (GBV) and the support services available at the Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS).
The session underscored the importance of prioritizing girls’ education and the procedures for reporting GBV incidents to the relevant authorities, highlighting the critical role young people play in ending gender-based violence and cultivating a culture of equality and respect.
He said the interactive discussions encouraged open dialogue and inspired IDPs to become advocates for a violence-free society.
He urged IHRC SMM Officials to persist in their efforts to create a future where every woman and child can live without fear, without harm, and with the dignity and safety they deserve.
Other SMM Officials present at the Advocacy visit were Musa Umar, Babagana Alh Abor, Binta Ibrahim, and Rhoda Hussaini.
Recall that the Bakassi IDP Camp are victims of a recent devastating flood that occurred in Borno State.
