In a remarkable demonstration of compassion and community engagement, the Borno State Chapter of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has extended critical support to young patients at Maiduguri General Hospital. The focus of this outreach was the paediatric ward, where IHRC volunteers brought much-needed hygiene supplies directly to the children and their families.

Donation of Vital Hygiene Supplies

The IHRC volunteer team distributed:

• Washing soap
• Bath soap
• Omo detergent
• Pampers

A total of 100 children benefited from the donations, an act which brought relief and smiles to both patients and their caregivers.

During the visit, Comrade Hassan Mohammed Adamu, State Coordinator of IHRC Borno State, expressed sincere appreciation to National Coordinator Comrade Elijah Vitus Echendu for his continuous encouragement and visionary leadership.

In a notable demonstration of community-driven humanitarian commitment, the Kaduna State Chapter of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) has successfully implemented a comprehensive outreach programme at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital, Tudun Wada, as part of this year’s Community Service Month.

Essential Donations and Sanitation Efforts

Under the leadership of State Coordinator Grace Yohanna, the IHRC team donated critical health supplies, including:

• Mosquito nets
• Bleach
• Izal (disinfectant)

The team also conducted an in-depth sanitation of the hospital premises, demonstrating IHRC’s holistic approach to healthcare support and prevention.

“Health is wealth,” – this core principle guided the activities, reflecting the Commission’s dedication to both immediate and long-term wellbeing in local communities.

March 26, 2025 – The International Human Rights Commission IHRC Corporation commemorated the 55th Independence Day of Bangladesh with due reverence and solemnity amid the holy month of Ramadan.

Independence Day holds profound historical significance for Bangladesh, marking the sacrifices made during the liberation war of 1971, which led to the emergence of an independent nation with its distinct flag, territory, and identity.

To honour this occasion, International Human Rights Commission IHRC Corporation’s local leaders and activists participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyrs Memorial in Chittagong, Bangladesh, at 11:30 AM. Prominent attendees included Lion Muhammed Elias Sirazi, Peace Ambassador and National Coordinator; Journalist SM Kamrul Islam; Engineer Majedul Alam; Lion Asif Ghani Chowdhury; Moinuddin Ahmed; Saifuddin Mahmud; Engineer Taiyub Uddin Bhuiyan; Engineer Arif JP Mahmud; Mr. Showkat; Mr. Khaled; Mr. Rashed; Mr. Mamun; and Dr. Mohammed Sajjad Hossain, IHRC Press Journalist, among others.

In his address, Peace Ambassador Lion Muhammed Elias Sirazi emphasized the immense sacrifices made by countless martyrs, asserting, “We gained an independent nation at the cost of the blood of hundreds of thousands of martyrs. There will be no compromise on the country’s freedom and sovereignty. To protect our independence, we must uphold the spirit of 1971.” He further urged collective efforts toward building a robust nation driven by patriotism.

Journalist SM Kamrul Islam highlighted the continued importance of vigilance in safeguarding freedom, remarking, “It is harder to defend independence than to achieve it. Everyone must contribute to preserving the nation’s independence and sovereignty at all costs.”

Engineer Majedul Alam noted the necessity of fulfilling the aspirations envisioned in 1971, saying, “When the dreams of 1971 are fully realized, our people will truly enjoy the benefits of independence.”

Lion Asif Ghani Chowdhury commemorated the heroes of the nation, asserting, “Their sacrifices will never be forgotten and will always inspire us.”

The event concluded with special prayers offered for the eternal peace of the martyrs of 1971 and the ongoing peace, prosperity, and progress of Bangladesh.

To commemorate Independence Day nationwide, the national flag was hoisted atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings at dawn. Streets and road islands in Dhaka and other cities were decorated with national flags, vibrant banners, and festoons. Key landmarks were illuminated in colourful lights, with the exception of Tuesday night, dedicated to remembering the 1971 genocide.

Independence Day remains a potent reminder of Bangladesh’s resilience, progress, and the collective duty of its citizens to uphold freedom and democracy.

“Our red-green flag is not merely a symbol of our country; it embodies our pride, love, and enduring struggle. Today, we pay deep tribute to the heroes whose sacrifices granted us independence,” concluded Dr. Mohammed Sajjad Hossain, IHRC Press Journalist in Bangladesh.

Advocate Md. Sarowar Hossain Lovelo, a distinguished lawyer and human rights activist known for his profound social commitment, initiated an exceptional charitable project. Utilising his first government salary as an Additional Public Prosecutor (APP), Lovelo organised an Iftar distribution event for those most in need during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a period of reflection, sacrifice, and solidarity with the less fortunate. Guided by these values, Advocate Lovelo decided to allocate his first public sector salary to help vulnerable individuals, including the homeless and orphans. The event took place on 24 March 2025, ahead of a special gathering organised by the Sitakunda Blood Bank at the Sitakunda Municipality premises.

The event was attended by numerous representatives from local social organisations, including Lion Mohammad Nur Khan, founder and administrator of Sitakunda Blood Bank; Lion Lecturer Md. Nazimuzzaman Rashed, Vice President of Dishari Youth Foundation Bangladesh; Md. Raihan Uddin, founder of Sitakunda Blood Bank; Md. Abu Taher, President of Goriber Bondhu Youth Foundation; Md. Omar Faruq, former President of Sitakunda Youth Blood Foundation and executive member of Sitakunda Upazila Social Welfare Federation; Md. Nuruddin, General Secretary of Sitakunda Youth Blood Foundation; and Md. Iqbal Hossain Imon, General Secretary of Dishari Blood Donation Club.

Advocate Lovelo emphasised the significance of the event, stating: “My profession is law, but my life’s mission is to serve humanity. I believe that a lawyer should be an ambassador for justice, both inside and outside the courtroom. I am delighted to use my first public-sector salary to support those in need. I hope my initiative encourages others to undertake similar actions. I am particularly grateful to organisations like Dishari Youth Foundation and Sitakunda Blood Bank for their invaluable support.”

Md. Nazimuzzaman Rashed from Dishari Youth Foundation Bangladesh described Advocate Lovelo as a humanitarian role model and an inspiration for younger generations, highlighting the importance of his social initiatives despite professional success.

Md. Omar Faruq from Sitakunda Youth Blood Foundation highlighted the uniqueness of Advocate Lovelo’s initiative, emphasising his example of social responsibility as a model for local youth.

Md. Raihan Uddin, founder of Sitakunda Blood Bank, added that Advocate Lovelo’s actions demonstrate the vital importance of selfless community service, which forms the foundation for building a compassionate and fair society.

The Iftar distribution project serves as a call for increased social involvement, reminding us that anyone can effect positive change through determination and a sense of duty towards the needy.

Each recipient received a selection of 15 different food items, providing comprehensive and balanced support to those in need. These items included milk, sugar, flour, pasta, oats, porridge, cheese, fruit jams, canned fish, various stews, sunflower oil, coffee, biscuits, and canned peas. This diversity in supplies allows families to not only meet their basic needs but also to maintain dignity and stability during challenging times.

The organiser and primary driving force behind the event was Commissioner IHRC Leli Kagermanova, known for her selfless dedication to humanitarian aid. Through her commitment, people in need have access to support that is often crucial for their daily survival. “What Commissioner Kagermanova does is invaluable – when people reach out to her for assistance, she responds without hesitation and strives to ensure that everyone receives the necessary support.” emphasise those grateful individuals who regularly receive help.

The operation was carried out under the auspices of the International Human Rights Commission – IHRC, with organisational support from Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, Secretary General and Chairperson of the IHRC Group. Prof. Wasik, also known as the Peacemaker, is involved in numerous initiatives to protect human rights and foster peace globally. His vision and values inspire IHRC’s mission, which extends beyond providing aid to promoting dignity and respect for every individual.

Selita Semieva, an IHRC Volunteer reporting on the event, expressed gratitude to all those involved, especially highlighting the immense dedication and work of Commissioner Kagermanova. “The gratitude expressed by those receiving assistance is priceless and shows how important such initiatives are for the international community.” noted Semieva.

As an organisation devoted to the defence of human rights, IHRC continuously strives to improve the living conditions of those in need. Through the dedication of its volunteers and the support of donors, the Commission organises regular humanitarian initiatives that reach the most vulnerable.

This initiative was spearheaded by the Young Ambassador of the International Human Rights Commission in Bangladesh, Mr. Taz Mohammad. The team under his leadership, led by the SMM IHRC BD zonal coordinator, Mr. Azimur Rahman Raihan, along with a group of volunteers from Lakshmipur Sadar, reached these remote villages where the situation was particularly dire. The volunteers, including Kazi Abdur Rahman Rahat, Rana, Samad, Sihab, Raju, Kanchan, Rahman, Milan, Omar, Riyaz, and Jisan, managed to deliver the necessary supplies to the residents despite the challenging conditions.

The villages of Bishnunagar and Parvati Nagar were heavily flooded, leaving the residents cut off from food and drinking water for several days. The locals expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, emphasising that the provision of water and food was crucial for their survival under such harsh conditions.

A key role in organising the relief efforts was played by the SMM IHRC Bangladesh Peace Ambassador, Mohammed Elias Serazi, who secured the funds to finance these humanitarian activities. He also donated 20,000.00 TAKA to the Government of Bangladesh’s Relief and Welfare Fund.

Dr. Muhammed Kamal Uddin, the representative of the chief adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, expressed his thanks for the support and commitment of the International Human Rights Commission. He highlighted that no donation is too small, and its significance is profound and sincere. He added that the actions of SMM IHRC BD are highly valued and play a crucial role in crisis moments such as the current flood.

The Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission in Bangladesh has once again demonstrated its readiness to act in the most challenging times, supporting those who need help the most. Under the leadership of Peace Ambassador Mohammed Elias Serazi and Young Ambassador Taz Mohammad, SMM IHRC BD continues its efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods and provide relief to the affected residents.
