International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), now officially operating under its new name, Transnational Intergovernmental IHRC Corporation, announces that its operational management has officially relocated from Switzerland to New Mexico, United States. This decision, made under the leadership of Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik, IHRC Secretary-General, Chairperson IHRC Group, Peacemaker, reflects the organization’s response to shifting geopolitical realities and the need to enhance the effectiveness of its humanitarian and international operations.

The new headquarters in New Mexico is now fully operational, serving as the central hub for advancing key projects at an even higher level. This strategic location enables IHRC to better respond to global humanitarian crises, further intensifying its commitment to regions affected by armed conflicts, natural disasters, and human rights violations.

Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik, IHRC Secretary-General, emphasized the significance of this transition:
“New Mexico provides strategic opportunities that strengthen our international initiatives. Relocating our headquarters allows us to work closer to our partners and respond more quickly to the needs of those requiring humanitarian assistance. This marks a new chapter in IHRC’s history, further reinforcing our mission to support and protect human rights worldwide.”

The new headquarters of Transnational Intergovernmental IHRC Corporation also serves as a base for key humanitarian initiatives, such as the distribution of aid in crisis-affected areas, organizing international observation missions, and conducting educational efforts to promote human rights. The IHRC team in New Mexico has already begun working on ongoing projects, intensifying efforts in regions requiring immediate support.

Transnational Intergovernmental IHRC Corporation remains deeply committed to its mission of assisting those in need and fostering global collaboration for peace and justice.

On the occasion of February 12, recognised as the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and When Conducive to Terrorism, the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), a prominent Transnational Intergovernmental Organization, has urged collective action to combat the persistent challenge of violent extremism in Nigeria and across Africa.

In an official statement, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, IHRC Ambassador at Large and Head of the Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, stressed the urgent need for a unified approach to address this pervasive issue. He highlighted the multifaceted challenges contributing to violent extremism, including social inequality, unemployment, poverty, and political instability. According to Ambassador Hezekiah, addressing these root causes is fundamental to fostering social cohesion, economic development, and effective governance.

“The IHRC remains unwavering in its commitment to preventing violent extremism and advancing peace, security, and human rights through collaborative efforts,” said Ambassador Hezekiah. “We believe that by working alongside governments, civil society organisations, local communities, and international partners, we can counter the appeal of extremist ideologies and their destructive impacts.”

The statement further underscored the critical role of stakeholders, including governmental bodies, civil society groups, the private sector, and individuals, in collectively devising and implementing comprehensive strategies to curb violent extremism. Ambassador Hezekiah called on all parties to contribute actively, noting that cooperation across sectors is vital to achieving sustainable peace and stability.

Addressing Root Causes and Strengthening Resilience

Ambassador Hezekiah emphasised that tackling violent extremism requires a holistic approach. Economic empowerment initiatives, particularly for vulnerable groups such as youth and women, can serve as a critical tool in mitigating the socio-economic disparities that extremist groups often exploit. Additionally, strengthening educational opportunities and promoting community engagement can foster resilience against radical ideologies.

IHRC’s Role and Collaborative Efforts

The IHRC has been actively involved in promoting dialogue, capacity building, and strategic partnerships aimed at reducing violent extremism in Nigeria and Africa. By engaging with local communities, the IHRC ensures that solutions are rooted in the specific cultural and socio-economic contexts of the affected regions.

The Commission also works closely with international partners to align its initiatives with global efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. This collaborative approach underscores the importance of shared responsibility in addressing a challenge that transcends national borders.

Call to Action

The IHRC calls upon all stakeholders to join forces in the fight against violent extremism. Governments must prioritise policy frameworks that address the root causes of extremism, while civil society organisations play a pivotal role in implementing grassroots initiatives. The private sector can contribute through corporate social responsibility programs, and individuals are encouraged to engage in community-based actions that promote peace and inclusivity.

By working together, we can build a future where peace and security prevail, ensuring that the destructive influence of violent extremism is diminished. The IHRC reaffirms its dedication to this cause and stands ready to partner with all who share this vision.

In observance of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a day dedicated to raising awareness and mobilising efforts to eradicate this detrimental practice, the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Nigeria has urged decisive action against this scourge.

As stated on February 6, 2025, in Abuja by the Commission’s Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, addressing female genital mutilation necessitates a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to educating communities, leaders, and individuals regarding the harm caused by FGM, its consequences, and the importance of abandoning the practice.

He said the theme for this year’s International Day, “Stepping Up the Pace: Strengthening Alliances and Building Movements to End FGM,” emphasised the need for collective action and urgency to eliminate this practice by 2030.

Dr. Duru further emphasised that female genital mutilation is a brutal practice that has been perpetuated for centuries, leaving millions of girls and women worldwide with physical and emotional scars, stressing that such a heinous act of violence against women and girls is a gross human rights violation that must be eradicated.

It is argued that FGM is practiced in over 30 countries, primarily in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, and according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over 200 million girls and women have undergone FGM worldwide.

He decried that girls and women who undergo FGM are at risk of chronic pain, infection, infertility, and complications during childbirth, and also at risk of developing mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression.

Emphasising that FGM is perpetuated by a complex interplay of cultural, social, and economic factors, making it a rite of passage and a way to prepare girls for marriage and womanhood in many African communities.

To curtail this detrimental practice, he urged stakeholders to enact and enforce laws that prohibit FGM and develop policies that support the prevention and protection of girls and women from FGM.

He maintained that civil society organisations should provide support to victims and survivors of FGM, as well as media outlets such as journalists, broadcasters, and social media influencers who can help raise awareness and promote positive messages about ending FGM to change cultural and social norms.

The Ambassador-at-Large reaffirmed that the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) is committed to supporting actions to end FGM and promoting the rights and dignity of girls and women worldwide.

“By working together and taking a comprehensive approach, we can end FGM and promote the health, well-being, and human rights of girls and women around the world,” he noted.

A high-level working session between representatives of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and the senior leadership of the African Development Bank (AfDB) was held at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on 4 February 2025. The meeting aimed to conduct an annual review of the 2021–2030 reform agenda, programs, and community micro-projects under the IHRC National Programme for Côte d’Ivoire, affiliated with ECOWAS member states.

This initiative is part of IHRC’s technical framework, designed to monitor and evaluate the progress of reforms and projects supported by international development partners, including the African Development Bank and other multilateral execution agencies.

Strengthening Climate Action and Sustainable Development

Discussions focused on the African Development Bank’s priorities in the fields of climate adaptation and sustainable development, particularly through initiatives led by its Department for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Climate Action Window. A key highlight was the evaluation of reforms and strategies aimed at supporting environmental protection and climate resilience, both of which are essential for local communities and long-term economic stability.

Official Submission of the COP 29 Report

The session concluded with the official submission of a joint report, detailing the participation of IHRC representatives in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29), which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024. This report outlines key outcomes and recommendations in the global fight against climate change and highlights the contributions of the IHRC delegation to international discussions.

Emphasising the Importance of International Cooperation

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of coordinated international action in accelerating the implementation of reforms and ensuring the effective oversight of social and environmental projects. Participants underscored the need for multilateral collaboration between international organisations, financial institutions, and local initiatives to support the sustainable and inclusive development of Côte d’Ivoire and the wider ECOWAS region.

Mr. Daouda Ouattara—Assistant to the Senior Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Meeting in Mau District—Education and Social Integration

Another remarkable event took place in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, focusing on education and the promotion of human rights. The gathering was attended by Bishop Dr. H.E. Samsher Khan, IHRC Peace Ambassador and IHRC Press Journalist; Dr. Radha Krishnan (ZVC & IHRC Press Investigative Journalist in India); and official IHRC volunteers: Ramchandar, Pushpendra, Dharmendar, and many others.

During the event, attendees were educated on human rights, inspiring further efforts towards the protection of fundamental civil liberties. Some individuals were also honoured with certificates in recognition of their service to the local community. The meeting had a spiritual dimension, as participants prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity for their community and the nation.

Bishop Dr. H.E. Samsher Khan once again expressed his gratitude to Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, IHRC Secretary-General, Chairperson IHRC Group, Peacemaker, for his invaluable contribution to IHRC’s mission. He also highlighted the importance of the support provided by the IHRC team and all those involved in advancing the organisation’s objectives.

IHRC’s Commitment in India

Both events demonstrated the crucial role played by the International Human Rights Commission in promoting human rights protection, education, and social integration. Through the efforts of local leaders and IHRC volunteers, communities in India continue to benefit from support in education, social justice, and peacebuilding.

Activities such as awarding recognition for contributions and organising educational sessions remain essential elements of IHRC’s mission to raise awareness and mobilise societies worldwide.

On 30th January, the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid by distributing warm blankets and winter clothing to underprivileged and orphaned children residing at Baitus Salam Orphanage & Madrasa in Chittagong Mayor Goli.

Many organisations and individuals take on the responsibility of improving the lives of those in need, and IHRC has been carrying out humanitarian initiatives in Bangladesh for years, particularly during the harsh winter months, when the most vulnerable require extra support. This initiative was made possible through the dedication of numerous compassionate individuals, including Ms. Rukshana Khanam Mitua, a political figure, philanthropist, and environmentalist. Her generosity and commitment enabled the delivery of blankets to the orphanage, ensuring that the children could experience some warmth and comfort.

Reflecting on the initiative, Ms. Rukshana Khanam Mitua emphasised that IHRC carries out similar efforts at the grassroots level in Bangladesh every year during the winter, striving to reach those most in need. Her guidance and support were instrumental in the successful completion of this meaningful mission.

Special appreciation goes to all those who contributed to making this initiative possible: National Coordinator Amb. Elias Sirazi, Roksana Khan Mitua, Syed Mostafa Alam Masum, Amir Hossain Khan, SM Kamrul Islam, Tahera Sharmin, Lion Asif Gani Chowdhury, Moin Uddin Ahmed, Saifuddin Mahmud, Engineer Debashish Paul, Md. Imtiaz Uddin, Chaithowai Marma, Mobarok Ahmed, and Dr. Sajjad. Each of them played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this noble cause.

At approximately 8:00 PM, the IHRC team, led by SM Kamrul Islam, arrived at the orphanage, where they were warmly welcomed by Maulana Forkan Ahmad, the coordinator of the facility. During the gathering, SM Kamrul Islam highlighted that humanity is a core value upheld by all faiths and that true love for others is the greatest virtue one can possess. He spoke about the profound joy of being able to support children who have faced immense hardships yet continue to hold onto hope. He reaffirmed IHRC’s commitment to standing by those in need, ensuring they receive not just material aid but also the reassurance that they are not alone.

Maulana Furqan Ahmed and Aurangazeb Khan Samrat also addressed the gathering, expressing their deep gratitude for the support provided and acknowledging the impact of such initiatives in fostering a more compassionate world.

This humanitarian mission would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless efforts of the entire team, which included SM Kamrul Islam (team leader), Lion Asif Gani Chowdhury, Aurangzeb Khan Samrat, Debashish Paul, Md. Imtiaz Uddin, Engineer Abu Tayub, Prof. Abu Hanif, Md. Hasan, and Dr. Sajjad (IHRC Press Journalist). Each team member played an essential role in organising and coordinating the event, ensuring its seamless execution.

That evening, the orphanage became a place filled with warmth, kindness, and hope. What may seem like a simple gesture to some can mean the world to others, symbolising care, solidarity, and human kindness. Initiatives like this serve as a reminder that even the smallest acts of compassion can lead to meaningful change.

The Soundélé Konan Foundation and the National Coordination for the Country Programme of the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC for the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, affiliated with ECOWAS countries, established a strategic partnership on Thursday, 30 January 2025. The agreement, signed in Abidjan, aims to support the Ivorian government’s efforts in protecting and restoring forest cover, a crucial challenge for the country, which is the world’s largest producer of cocoa.

This agreement aligns with commitments made by Côte d’Ivoire during international summits, including COP21, under the Paris Climate Agreement, where the country pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect natural resources, essential for the long-term environmental stability of the region. It reflects a shared commitment to balancing economic development with environmental protection, especially as deforestation remains a significant threat to biodiversity and climate.

Adrienne Soundélé, President of the Soundélé Konan Foundation, described this collaboration as a crucial step in the fight for forest protection in Côte d’Ivoire. “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to building a brighter future, where forests reclaim their central place in our ecosystem and economy,” she stated.

Fofana Vamara, IHRC Resident Representative, highlighted the tangible benefits of this project, which receives substantial support from the Department for Climate Change Mitigation and Civil Society Organisations of the African Development Bank (AfDB), as well as potential multilateral international partners engaged in combating global warming and preserving biodiversity. “The goal is to support the people of Gagnoa, a key cocoa-producing region, in adopting sustainable agricultural practices that are forest and environmentally friendly,” he explained.

At the core of this initiative are two promising approaches: agroforestry and forestry. These techniques integrate trees into agricultural systems, allowing biodiversity preservation while improving yields and farmers’ incomes. For the Gagnoa region, the heart of cocoa cultivation, transitioning to more sustainable practices is essential.

Deforestation, primarily driven by extensive agriculture, has reduced Côte d’Ivoire’s forest cover by over 80% in the past 50 years. In response to this alarming situation, the government has committed to restoring 20% of its forests by 2030. The partnership between the Soundélé Konan Foundation and IHRC is part of a broader effort to realise these ambitious goals.

The signing of this agreement marks a turning point in the fight against deforestation in Côte d’Ivoire, opening new avenues for collaboration between the public sector, non-governmental organisations, and local communities in implementing effective forest conservation programs. It showcases the ability of local and international actors to work together in addressing complex challenges at the intersection of environmental, economic, and social issues.

As Côte d’Ivoire continues to play a central role in global cocoa production, this partnership could serve as a model for other countries facing similar challenges, particularly in West Africa, where deforestation driven by intensive agriculture poses a serious threat to ecosystems and local communities.

The Republic Day 2025 celebrations in Bihar, India, were held under the auspices of the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC. The event, organised in Lauriya Bettiah, was marked by great enthusiasm and a strong sense of purpose, serving not only as a celebration of Indian democracy but also as a testament to the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian values.

As the author of this account, I, Bishop Dr. h.e Samsher Khan, IHRC Peace Ambassador, MNVC India, and IHRC Press Journalist, wish to highlight the significance of this day. Together with Surbhi PriyaZonal IHRC Zonal Volunteer Coordinator, and Mukesh Kumar IHRC Official Volunteer, we led activities that were critical to the success and impact of this occasion.

This day was exceptional not only due to the celebrations but also because of our collective efforts to support the community of Bihar. As in previous years, under my leadership, 111 individuals were provided with double bed blankets, and meals were distributed. This initiative has become a symbol of support and compassion. Prayers were offered for peace, happiness, and prosperity, with wishes for love and unity both within the community and across the nation.

A particularly significant moment was the hoisting of the IHRC flag, which proudly flew alongside the Indian flag. This act symbolised our unwavering commitment to supporting human rights, as well as unity and international cooperation. Participants gathered around to celebrate this solemn moment, which was beautifully captured in photographs that underscore the importance of this ceremony.

I would also like to express my deep gratitude for the support of the International Human Rights Commission, especially Hon. Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik IHRC Secretary-General, Chairperson IHRC Group, Peacemaker. Their support has enabled me to carry out initiatives that champion human rights and provide assistance to those in need.

The event also saw the presence of numerous community members who, equipped with IHRC identification, proudly took part in the celebrations. Participants were made aware of the various ways they could contribute to supporting the local community, aligning with IHRC’s mission. Everyone involved expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work under the organisation’s banner, recognising this day as one filled with inspiration and appreciation.

The efforts made on this day were recognised as a perfect example of action in line with IHRC values. We are grateful for the unwavering dedication of our organisation to improving the lives of others, which highlights the crucial role individual contributions play in the success of IHRC’s mission.

IHRC extends heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to making this event possible. Their collective efforts brought hope and relief to many, demonstrating the power of unity and compassion.

The Republic Day celebrations in Bihar were more than just an event. They were a testament to the strength of a community driven by humanitarian work. Through acts of kindness, education, and prayer, IHRC showcased its unwavering dedication to serving humanity and promoting human rights. Events like these not only provide immediate relief to those in need but also inspire a broader commitment to building a fair and compassionate society.

The International Human Rights Commission remains steadfast in its mission to protect human rights and dignity, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of peace and prosperity.
