President Trump’s remarks should inspire Nigeria to act decisively in protecting its citizens and rebuilding international trust

ABUJA, Nigeria — November 2025.
The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC Corporation) has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to treat recent remarks by U.S. President Donald J. Trump on the country’s security crisis as a call for urgent leadership and constructive engagement — not as an attack on the nation’s image.

In a statement endorsed by Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, IHRC Corporation Secretary-General, Peacemaker, the Commission emphasised that Nigeria’s current challenges demand unity, responsible governance, and immediate international coordination to prevent further humanitarian tragedy.

“When human life is endangered, silence is not neutrality — it is neglect,” said Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, IHRC Corporation Secretary-General, Peacemaker. “Nigeria’s leadership must rise above political divisions to protect all citizens equally and to demonstrate to the world that Africa’s largest democracy stands firm for peace, human dignity, and justice.”

President Trump reportedly described the escalating violence and targeted killings in parts of Nigeria as “acts of genocide”, prompting intense global debate. The IHRC stated that while such remarks may appear harsh, they should be interpreted as a wake-up call for decisive action rather than an affront to the nation’s image.

IHRC: Leadership must turn criticism into action

Through its Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hezekiah Duru, the Commission reaffirmed that even criticism, when rooted in humanitarian concern, should serve as a catalyst for reflection and reform.

“Innocent Nigerians — Christians, Muslims, and those of no faith — continue to suffer death, displacement, and trauma as a result of terrorism and armed banditry,” Ambassador Duru stated. “The Government must act decisively to prevent deeper diplomatic mistrust and further national trauma.”

The IHRC underlined that persistent insecurity across the North, Middle Belt, and South East exposes critical gaps in citizen protection. It urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to view President Trump’s remarks as a challenge to rebuild public confidence and restore Nigeria’s global standing.

Diplomatic engagement and institutional reform

The Commission encouraged Nigeria’s newly appointed security chiefs to adopt intelligence-driven, preventive strategies, warning that waiting for attacks before responding only deepens instability.

“You cannot sleep under a burning roof and expect to wake up whole,” the IHRC noted. “The time to act is now — before isolated violence hardens into a national crisis.”

It called for strengthened collaboration with the United States, the European Union, the United Nations, ECOWAS, and the African Union, stressing that coordinated diplomacy is essential to confronting terrorism and displacement.

“Diplomatic silence during global scrutiny may be mistaken for indifference,” the Commission warned. “Transparent dialogue with allies will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peace and human rights.”

Proposal for a High-Level Diplomatic Advisory Council

To enhance credibility and trust, IHRC proposed the establishment of a High-Level Diplomatic Advisory Council, composed of senior statesmen, jurists, and international relations experts. Such a council, the Commission stated, would guide Nigeria’s strategic engagement with global partners and demonstrate its seriousness in rebuilding national and international confidence.

Human rights and constitutional guarantees

The Commission reminded that Section 38(1) of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution — alongside the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) — guarantees freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.

“These must remain living principles, not dormant clauses,” the statement read, noting that unchecked terrorism and kidnappings continue to undermine national stability and trust abroad.

Ambassador Duru reaffirmed that Nigeria must lead its own rescue mission through stronger institutions, interfaith dialogue, transparent governance, and a renewed commitment to the sanctity of human life.

“The world is watching,” he said. “Inaction only fuels misinformation and external interference.”

A message from the IHRC Corporation Secretary-General

Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, IHRC Corporation Secretary-General, Peacemaker, reiterated the Commission’s readiness to cooperate with Nigerian authorities and international allies, stressing that IHRC’s mission is one of partnership, not criticism.

“Our role is to strengthen nations in crisis, not to judge them. Nigeria’s strength lies in its unity and moral courage to act when peace and justice are at risk,” he stated.

A call for unity and decisive action

IHRC reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, and human rights monitoring across Nigeria.

“A tree does not stand alone in the storm,” the statement concluded. “Unity — the lifeblood of our nation — is now under threat. Nigeria’s destiny as Africa’s democratic leader depends on its courage to protect its citizens and restore peace. The time for decisive action is now.”

Abuja, Nigeria – 16 August 2025

In a historic recognition of service, leadership, and advocacy, H.E. Ambassador (Dr.) Duru Hezekiah, Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Nigeria, has been inducted into the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Hall of Fame by the Grow Africa Youth Initiative.

Alongside this induction, Ambassador Duru received two distinguished honors: the Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence and the Icon of Public Service Renaissance Award—further solidifying his role as a beacon of principled diplomacy, humanitarianism, and youth empowerment in Africa.

The recognition pays tribute to Ambassador Duru’s tireless work in advancing human rights, peacebuilding, and inclusive development, particularly through his role in strengthening IHRC Nigeria’s presence and credibility. Under his leadership, the IHRC Special Monitoring Mission has grown in visibility and compliance with international standards of diplomacy and humanitarian engagement.

In his remarks, Ambassador Duru dedicated the awards to the visionary leadership of Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik, IHRC Secretary-General, Peacemaker whose steady guidance has ensured global cohesion, diplomatic credibility, and operational accountability across all IHRC missions.

“This honor is not just for me, but for the entire IHRC family whose commitment under the Secretary General’s leadership continues to inspire trust and impact,” Ambassador Duru stated.

Observers note that this triple honor reflects a growing recognition of IHRC’s role in promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development in Nigeria and across Africa. It also signals IHRC Nigeria’s alignment with the ideals of African liberation icon Kwame Nkrumah, who championed unity, justice, and the renaissance of public service for the collective good.

The Grow Africa Youth Initiative’s acknowledgment of Ambassador Duru’s work comes at a critical time when Africa strives to reposition its governance and youth engagement agenda. By celebrating his efforts, the awards spotlight the indispensable role of diplomacy, human rights advocacy, and intergenerational leadership in shaping Africa’s future.

IHRC Corporation: Setting New Benchmarks in International Effectiveness

IHRC Corporation, founded in 2023 in New Mexico by Prof. h.c. Rafał Marcin Wasik and Maj. Gen. Romanos Raad, is an independent, transnational intergovernmental organization (IGO) operating strictly under international law: the United Nations Charter, the Geneva Convention, the Vienna Convention, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The organization holds IRS 501(c)(3) status as a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation in the USA.

IHRC serves as a neutral arbitrator and mediator in some of the world’s most volatile conflict zones. Its flagship initiative, the Peacemaker Force, is a rapid-response formation currently deployed in the Gaza Strip. Here, IHRC, as the only organization with full accreditation in Israel, provides direct humanitarian assistance to civilians—delivering food, water, medicines, and logistical support to millions in need.

A Global Network of Diplomacy and Humanitarian Aid

IHRC runs official diplomatic missions and humanitarian projects in:

Lebanon

Nigeria

Niger

Pakistan

Georgia

USA
It actively supports democratization, monitors elections, and implements legislative solutions.

Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (Ayn Issa)

Diplomatic Corps and Organizational Innovation

IHRC boasts a comprehensive diplomatic corps—ambassadors, commissioners, advisers, and chaplains—each equipped with official Corps Diplomatique documents and Travel Orders, all centrally issued and subject to audit, guaranteeing diplomatic immunity.

IHRC is also a pioneer in humanitarian project financing: the organization is implementing the HT-IHRC token (ERC-20, pegged to USDT) as a transparent tool for global humanitarian operations, fully compliant with FATF, SEC, MiCA, and EFCC regulations.

Pioneering Programs and the Contribution of Prof. Rafał Wasik

IHRC is spearheading groundbreaking programs:

FUTURE AFRICA – Humanitarian economic zones based on the agri-sector in Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and the DRC, designed to create jobs, ensure food security, and curb illegal migration. European consumers purchasing these labelled products are directly supporting efforts to reduce migration to the EU.

HUB SPRC (Terra Nilus, between Serbia and Croatia) – A neutral centre for reintegration, protection, and relocation of victims of human trafficking and illegal migration, fully compliant with the Geneva Convention and UN standards.

By combining neutrality, innovation, and operational effectiveness, IHRC Corporation remains a global leader in humanitarian diplomacy, offering real solutions for a world in crisis.

Organization Motto:

In 2014, he publicly warned of the impending war in Ukraine and in 2019 initiated the draft law for dual citizenship for Ukrainians—eventually adopted by the President of Ukraine.

Expert Commentary and Implications for International Stability

Date: 13 June 2025

Background

The latest reported Israeli attack on Iran represents a significant escalation in an already volatile regional dynamic. Tensions between these states have persisted for decades, driven by ideological rivalry, proxy confrontations, and enduring disputes over Iran’s nuclear ambitions versus Israel’s national security concerns.

Strategic Motivations

Israel frames such actions as preemptive or defensive operations, seeking to disrupt Iran’s military infrastructure—especially those linked to nuclear programmes or proxy groups (notably Hezbollah).

Iran perceives these acts as direct aggressions and violations of its sovereignty, responding with heightened rhetoric and, at times, limited military actions.

International Law and Diplomacy

International law stipulates that attacks on sovereign states are only justified in cases of clear self-defence or UN Security Council authorisation. Any deviation is generally deemed a breach of international norms.

The UN, European Union, and other neutral actors have consistently called for restraint, warning that ongoing hostilities risk sparking broader regional destabilisation.

Risks of Escalation

An Iranian retaliatory strike could trigger a wider conflict, potentially drawing in the United States, Gulf states, or other major actors.

Alternatively, the situation could devolve into shadow warfare—including cyber operations and proxy attacks—sustaining a perilous tit-for-tat cycle.

Internal Pressures

Both governments face notable domestic political pressures. While military engagements may galvanise national unity or distract from internal crises, they also heighten the risk of economic and social instability if prolonged.

Global Stakeholders

Major powers such as the United States, Russia, China, and the EU closely monitor developments, each pursuing distinct interests in the Middle East and potentially shaping events via diplomacy, mediation, or realignment.

The international community is particularly concerned with the potential for oil market volatility, refugee flows, and an increased risk of nuclear proliferation.

Outlook: Where Could This Lead?

Key scenarios include:

De-escalation through diplomatic mediation by states such as Qatar, Turkey, or Oman.

Continuation of covert or cyber conflict, prolonging instability without direct warfare.

Unintended escalation leading to a wider regional—or even global—crisis.

“Absent immediate, coordinated efforts towards de-escalation, accountability, and international mediation, the risk of conflict intensification remains high. Both parties—and the global community—stand to lose immeasurably more through confrontation than through negotiation.”

Under the leadership of the National Coordination for the Country Programme of the International Human Rights Commission – IHRC, Côte d’Ivoire presented a comprehensive strategy rooted in the promotion of peace, effective cooperation, and the protection of human rights.

A key role in the IHRC delegation from Côte d’Ivoire at COP29 was played by the nominated participants: IHRC Commissioner M. Vamara Fofana, Mme Itam Akpama Icha, M. Kouakou Alexis Promo, and M. Kouamé Jean-Baptiste Eclaire Amani. With support from the government and confirmation of their nomination by the UNFCCC Secretariat and the NCP, these representatives actively participated on the international stage. The issuance Letter of Accreditation facilitated their participation, enabling them to engage in critical negotiations on issues such as adaptation finance, transparency mechanisms, and climate justice.

During the conference, the Côte d’Ivoire delegation collaborated with representatives from 46 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to highlight the urgent needs of nations most affected by climate change. Joint efforts resulted in key achievements, including the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund to support vulnerable countries. Additionally, developed nations committed to doubling adaptation finance to address the growing financial gap, currently estimated at $200–350 billion annually. New transparency frameworks were also agreed upon to monitor progress in meeting climate commitments.

In one of the side events organised by the African Union, ECOWAS, UNOWAS and the African Development Bank (AfDB), Mme Itam Akpama Icha presented key strategies to address climate adaptation. She discussed the importance of agricultural adaptation, water management, and coastal protection as essential pillars for combating the impacts of climate change across the African continent. Mme Itam Akpama Icha highlighted initiatives such as farmer training, access to climate information services, efficient water systems like rainwater harvesting, and the restoration of mangroves as vital solutions to building resilience in vulnerable regions.

With the support of the National Coordination for the IHRC, the government of Côte d’Ivoire presented a robust approach to reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. Investments in renewable energy, forest conservation, and local community support demonstrated that even developing countries can implement ambitious and sustainable climate solutions. In his address, the Minister of Environment stated:
“Climate change demands global responsibility, but every country must act at home. Côte d’Ivoire shows that regional solidarity and local innovation can become key elements of global solutions.”

The IHRC played a critical role in supporting the preparation of Côte d’Ivoire’s delegation. By providing expert assistance in developing national reports and adaptation plans, the IHRC ensured that the delegation was well-prepared to actively participate in negotiations, emphasising the importance of climate justice and the need for developed nations to honour their financial commitments.

COP29 in Baku proved to be a landmark event for global climate action. The delegation from Côte d’Ivoire, in collaboration with the IHRC and regional partners, demonstrated that ambitious goals can be achieved through international cooperation and local engagement. The solidarity that defined this year’s conference must become the foundation for future efforts in addressing the global climate crisis.

November 7, 2024 in Bogota, Colombia, an international working meeting took place concerning collaboration with the “Adaptation Fund” an entity affiliated with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of the Colombian government. The meeting was held within the framework of the COP16 Conference on Biological Diversity, which was conducted in Cali and Bogotá from 16th October to 1st November 2024. This event was organised at the initiative of the National Coordination of the Country Programme of the International Human Rights Commission – IHRC for the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, in collaboration with the Soundelé Konan Foundation and GEDUS NETWORKS.

The meeting gathered key financial and climate experts, including participants from:

1.The Adaptation Fund under the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Colombia.
2.The Ministry of Environment of Colombia.
3.The ANNA PERENA Foundation, represented by Ms. Jenny de la Torre Córdoba, President of the Foundation and Special Adviser, with ministerial rank, to the President of Colombia on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
4.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.
5.The Soundelé Konan Foundation—for the protection and development of fauna and flora.
6.The Global Representative of GEDUS NETWORKS, Inc.

The discussions centred around the issue of access to funding for the implementation of joint community projects in Africa and South America, with a particular emphasis on the Republic of Colombia. Within the framework of this international initiative, held under COP16, the aim was to develop a strategy for multilateral and bilateral cooperation within environmental diplomacy to effectively implement joint community projects to combat climate change.

Colombia was chosen as the host for these discussions intentionally, being a country with significant tropical forest coverage, playing a key role in protecting biodiversity. The stakeholders defined several main areas of action:

Review of community projects in the form of pilot drafts – Rapid establishment of an environmental diplomatic representation in Bogotá with a coordinating unit responsible for cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Colombia concerning biodiversity protection and combating climate change.Finding swift and effective solutions to mobilise resources for the implementation of joint climate projects.

The institutions of the Republic of Colombia are fully involved in these efforts aimed at protecting biodiversity and combating climate change. This support program is a joint technical and financial initiative designed to effectively counteract the negative impacts of climate change.

The National Coordination of the Country Programme of IHRC for Côte d’Ivoire, linked with ECOWAS countries and other partners, including the Soundelé Konan Foundation and GEDUS NETWORKS, once again demonstrate their readiness and commitment to fighting the climate crisis through the joint implementation of community projects aimed at environmental protection.

Tbilisi, Georgia- IHRC Secretary General, Prof.h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, visited Georgia where he and a delegation met with the President of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Ruslan Abashidze, and his deputy, General Anzor Margiani. During the meeting, aspects of humanitarian assistance to civilians from the region and further cooperation between the IHRC and the Government of the Georgian Autonomous Republic were discussed.

The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Internment and Displaced Persons, Mr. David Patsatsia, with whom the broad aspects of further humanitarian supplies to the ministry were discussed, within the framework of a previously signed agreement with the IHRC.

One of the key topics of discussion was the possibility of establishing a permanent Diplomatic Mission of the IHRC Transnational Intergovernmental Organisation in Tbilisi. This mission would support the existing Tbilisi Delegation, which has been a branch of the IHRC from the Czech Republic for three years, in further developing and coordinating humanitarian assistance in the region.

Both meetings were attended by Ambassador at Large Ewelina Pawlowska, Managing Director of the Department of Diplomatic Protocol; and Volodymyr Beno, Commissioner IHRC; who discussed additional aspects to streamline the increase of humanitarian supplies aimed at the significant development of the region within the framework of the own assets that the IHRC is ready to transfer to Georgia for the implementation of social programmes of this Autonomous Republic.

It is worth recalling that to date, the IHRC has delivered free aid worth more than €3,700,000 to this Georgian Republic.

On Tuesday, 16.07, after productive talks and constructive arrangements, all meetings were concluded and the delegation flew back to Poland with optimism, continuing its mission to provide assistance and support the development of the regions affected by crises.

On June 28, 2024, the Democratic Republic of Congo celebrated its 64th anniversary of independence. The country’s Embassy in Poland had the honor of hosting distinguished members of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC). The celebrations took place under the auspices of the DRC’s Ambassador to Warsaw, Clementine Shakembo Kamanga, and her spouse, Frederic Kamanga Bantankouli.

The honorary IHRC delegation included Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, Secretary General of the World Chairman IHRC GROUP; Msc. Ewelina Pawlowska, Managing Director of the Department of Diplomatic Protocol; Pawel Nowacki, Ambassador at Large; and IHRC Commissioners to the DRC, Zbigniew Labeda and Tony Kamanga Bulela. They participated in both state ceremonies and embassy events, emphasizing the deep international ties and cooperation.

The day’s festivities commenced with a symbolic gesture of laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Marshal Jozef Pilsudski Square in Warsaw, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for independence and freedom. Following this moving ceremony, the guests proceeded to the DRC Ambassador’s residence, where an official reception was held.

During the reception, the national anthems of Poland and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were solemnly sung, further strengthening the spirit of mutual respect and solidarity between the two nations. Ambassador Clementine Shakembo Kamanga delivered a speech highlighting the importance of international cooperation and commitment to defending human rights. She also emphasized the significance of peace and unity for her country’s further development.

Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, on behalf of the IHRC delegation, expressed gratitude for the invitation and stressed his determination to promote and protect human rights. His words underscored the hope for further cooperation between the IHRC and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Guests had the opportunity to partake in a traditional meal featuring Congolese culinary specialties, providing an excellent forum for informal discussions and exchanges related to human rights issues.

The celebration also showcased Congo’s rich culture through artistic performances, including traditional dances and music, bringing participants even closer together.

The event concluded with a joint photo, capturing a moment of unity and international cooperation. This day not only celebrated independence but also demonstrated how cultural diplomacy and dialogue can contribute to a better world where human rights take precedence.

Through this and other initiatives, the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Poland aims to build intercultural bridges and strengthen international tie.
