On April 30, 2025, the International Human Rights Commission IHRC Corporation officially launched its humanitarian operations in the Lubunga commune, situated on the left bank of the Congo River in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This initiative signifies a pivotal step in IHRC’s dedication to assisting populations affected by recent intercommunal conflicts between the Mbole and Lengola ethnic groups.

A Humanitarian Response to an Acute Crisis

The violent clashes between the Mbole and Lengola communities have led to the displacement of thousands, now residing in emergency shelters such as the Sainte Marthe parish in Lubunga, Saint Gabriel parish in Simisimi, the communal office of Kisangani, and an informal site along the SEP-CONGO road.

In response, IHRC, represented by its provincial coordinator, Mr. Bertin Ndjike, organized a distribution of new and clean clothing to the displaced individuals at the Sainte Marthe parish. This action aims to address the essential needs of the victims while restoring their dignity and hope.

“We visited our brothers and sisters, parents, younger siblings who have been victims of the atrocious barbarity of a bloody conflict. As we say in Africa, one does not visit empty-handed. That’s why we delivered five bundles of clothing here at Sainte Marthe.” — Bertin Ndjike

Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion

Beyond material assistance, IHRC is actively engaged in promoting peace and reconciliation among the affected communities. Mr. Ndjike urged the displaced individuals to cultivate peace and forgiveness, essential elements for sustainable development and strengthened social cohesion.

“We thought of these friends, brothers, and sisters who have suffered these atrocities. They deserve to live in peace and social cohesion. Our actions will be continuous so that these victims can exercise their rights. The International Human Rights Commission will always stand by their side.” — Bertin Ndjike

Strengthening Presence in Tshopo Province

This initiative in Lubunga marks the beginning of a series of actions planned by IHRC in Tshopo province. Similar visits and distributions are scheduled for the sites of Saint Gabriel in Simisimi and Konga-Konga in the Kisangani commune. Through these actions, IHRC is reinforcing its presence in the region, contributing to community development and post-conflict reconstruction.

Conclusion

The commitment of the International Human Rights Commission in the DRC, particularly in the Lubunga commune, exemplifies an integrated humanitarian approach that combines material assistance with the promotion of human rights. By working towards dignity, peace, and social cohesion, IHRC positions itself as a key actor in responding to humanitarian crises in Central Africa.

In Butembo, a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the International Human Rights Commission -IHRC marked the New Year 2025 by intensifying its humanitarian efforts. The organisation provided critical assistance to war-displaced individuals and orphans, including pygmy survivors of the tragic Beni massacres.

This significant initiative was carried out on Tuesday, 31 December 2024, as part of IHRC’s end-of-year tradition to support vulnerable communities. The humanitarian aid included a substantial supply of food and essential non-food items, enabling recipients to celebrate the New Year with dignity.

A full truckload of provisions was distributed, comprising high-quality rice, cassava, beans, vegetable oil, milk, semolina, and salt, among other essentials. Non-food items such as clothing, shoes, mattresses, blankets, and utensils were also provided to improve living conditions.

“We are grateful to God for enabling us to execute this initiative. Celebrating Christmas and the New Year while ignoring the plight of our brothers and sisters in need would have been unconscionable. This year, our focus was on war-displaced individuals and orphans, identified through a detailed needs assessment. IHRC has long upheld a tradition of supporting vulnerable groups at year-end. During our visit, the dire conditions faced by displaced persons and orphans moved us deeply and compelled us to act. We also call upon others with the means to extend a helping hand,” stated Papy Amisa, an IHRC representative.

The beneficiaries included displaced individuals sheltered by the ISPRON organisation at the Catholic Cathedral in Butembo and six orphanages. Among these were facilities housing pygmy survivors from the Beni massacres in North Kivu, as well as those in Mambasa, Irumu (Ituri), and the Rughenda neighbourhood.

The gratitude expressed by the recipients was overwhelming at every location.
“This aid brings immense relief to us. It truly feels like a celebration. Your generosity and spirit of sharing have uplifted us, and we are deeply grateful. May you continue to be blessed,” remarked one of the displaced individuals.

Orphans and their caregivers also expressed their heartfelt thanks:
“You have made us feel loved and cared for. Thanks to your kindness, the children will have warm meals, proper clothing, and comfortable sleep. We cannot thank you enough and wish you great success in your noble endeavours.” -said representatives of the orphanages.

The distribution effort lasted the entire day under the supervision of the IHRC regional representative, ensuring that all identified beneficiaries received the aid.

On June 28, 2024, the Democratic Republic of Congo celebrated its 64th anniversary of independence. The country’s Embassy in Poland had the honor of hosting distinguished members of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC). The celebrations took place under the auspices of the DRC’s Ambassador to Warsaw, Clementine Shakembo Kamanga, and her spouse, Frederic Kamanga Bantankouli.

The honorary IHRC delegation included Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, Secretary General of the World Chairman IHRC GROUP; Msc. Ewelina Pawlowska, Managing Director of the Department of Diplomatic Protocol; Pawel Nowacki, Ambassador at Large; and IHRC Commissioners to the DRC, Zbigniew Labeda and Tony Kamanga Bulela. They participated in both state ceremonies and embassy events, emphasizing the deep international ties and cooperation.

The day’s festivities commenced with a symbolic gesture of laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Marshal Jozef Pilsudski Square in Warsaw, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for independence and freedom. Following this moving ceremony, the guests proceeded to the DRC Ambassador’s residence, where an official reception was held.

During the reception, the national anthems of Poland and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were solemnly sung, further strengthening the spirit of mutual respect and solidarity between the two nations. Ambassador Clementine Shakembo Kamanga delivered a speech highlighting the importance of international cooperation and commitment to defending human rights. She also emphasized the significance of peace and unity for her country’s further development.

Prof. h.c. Rafal Marcin Wasik, on behalf of the IHRC delegation, expressed gratitude for the invitation and stressed his determination to promote and protect human rights. His words underscored the hope for further cooperation between the IHRC and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Guests had the opportunity to partake in a traditional meal featuring Congolese culinary specialties, providing an excellent forum for informal discussions and exchanges related to human rights issues.

The celebration also showcased Congo’s rich culture through artistic performances, including traditional dances and music, bringing participants even closer together.

The event concluded with a joint photo, capturing a moment of unity and international cooperation. This day not only celebrated independence but also demonstrated how cultural diplomacy and dialogue can contribute to a better world where human rights take precedence.

Through this and other initiatives, the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Poland aims to build intercultural bridges and strengthen international tie.
