The Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC , Honors Stakeholders, Sets Agenda 2024
Human Rights Stakeholders have been charged with reinforcing commitment and effort to keep the flames of human rights and dignity burning for decades to come through collaborative efforts.
The assertion was made by the National Coordinator of the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission-IHRC in Nigeria, Engr. Comr. Elijah Vitus Echendu during the 2023 end-of-year human rights summit/award and gala night held at Abraka Delta State.
He said to attain a remarkable climax in 2024, human rights actors should work closely to develop a comprehensive experience of human rights advocacy that provides creative, concrete knowledge of how to use international and regional human rights treaties and enforcement mechanisms in their work.
The National Coordinator competently represented by Barr. Mrs. Nmachi Njemanze acknowledged not to claim antecedents of the Special Monitoring Mission in Nigeria, having worked with various stakeholders whose commitments to the noble cause have been steadfastly evident, enriching the discourse on these matters.
He noted that the Awardees which were the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass; the Delta State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Barr. Abubakar Wada; Captain UO Alawode, OC Nigerian Army Abraka, and the Vice-Chancellor Delta State University Abraka, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga merited the IHRC’s Award based on their respective roles in upholding human rights.
Similarly, human rights defenders including Pastor Comrade Edewor Egedegbe, Hon. Dr. Wilson Ekwerekwu, Comrade Monday Enudi, Pharmacist Emmanuel Ejuvwekpokpo, Comrade Emmanuel Osawe Ojeabulu, Barr. Mrs. Elizabeth Ekwerekwu Isimhemen, and Comrade Oliver Eyefia, amongst others, were honored for their supportive advocacy and defense of human rights in Delta State.
In their goodwill messages, Awardees expressed gratitude to the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human in the South-South Region, led by Fidelis Onakpoma, reaffirming their commitments to engender initiatives centered on human rights and sustainable development.
